Icebreaking

During winter months the coast of Finland is covered with ice. Alfons Håkans tugs are contracted by the harbour authorities in various ports to keep the berths clear from ice when ships enter or leave the port.

Additionally Alfons Håkans and our daughtercompany Finntugs Ltd in Kotka, have long-standing contracts with the government to assist the state owned icebreakers when necessary. This contract covers from Kaskö south of Vaasa in the northern Gulf of Bothnia, throughout to the eastern border to Russia in the Gulf of Finland.

Furthermore Alfons Håkans is active in towing vessels, which have been disabled in the ice in all surrounding waters of Finland. The entire fleet of Alfons Håkans 31 tugs are specially designed for icebreaking.
