Icebreaking - Contact
During the winter months, the coastal waters around Finland are covered with ice. Alfons Håkans tugs are contracted by the harbour authorities in various ports to keep the berths clear from this ice when ships enter or leave the port.
Additionally, Alfons Håkans and our subsidiary Finntugs Ltd have a long-standing contract with the Finnish government to assist the state-owned icebreakers when necessary. This contract covers the area from Kaskö, south of Vaasa in the northern Gulf of Bothnia, through to the eastern border of Russia in the Gulf of Finland.
Alfons Håkans is also active in towing vessels which have been disabled in the ice in Finnish waters. The entire fleet of Alfons Håkans 31 tugs are specially designed for icebreaking operations.
